Andrew Cortese BSc(Arch), BArch, RIBA, AIA, NZIA


Andrew Cortese joined Grimshaw as a Partner in 2009 and established Grimshaw’s Sydney office in 2010. He is jointly responsible for leading Grimshaw’s Australian operations. His most significant works have received national and international awards for design excellence, including the Olympic Tennis venues in Sydney and Beijing, UNSW L5 Building and the Point Apartments, Sydney.

Andrew actively leads a diverse range of masterplanning, transport, commercial workplace, education, and residential projects, including the Brisbane Airport Masterplan and the regeneration of the Maribyrnong Defence Site. Globally he shares responsibility for the sports and events infrastructure portfolio.

Andrew’s designs emanate from a commitment to a process of consultation and the exploration of system-defined relationships. Within all project typologies and research he pursues coherent and flexible planning frameworks which integrate cultural, social, ecological and urban objectives. Andrew’s speaking credits include presentations at state and national conventions for the AIA, PCA, and AISES. He is a lecturer and critic to Australian universities, and a juror for the AIA Architectural Awards.
